Buddhist Demons

The Buddhist Demons category includes all malevolent forces in Buddhist cosmology, Chinese Taoist/Confucian folklore (Gui, Jiangshi), and Korean traditions. Ranging from tempters who disrupt meditation to fierce protectors in Tantric practices, these entities (some malevolent, others more ambiguous) play complex roles in Buddhist mythology, appearing in stories, rituals, and art across India, Tibet, China, Korea, and beyond.
